Bertolotti's syndrome (MR).





PROTOCOL:   T1W & T2W - Sagittal & Axial scans

FINDINGS:

-There is normal lumbar lordotic curvature.

-Enlargement of right transverse process of L5 vertebral body with formation of pseudo joint with right sacral ala (type II A Castellvi classification; suggestive of Bertolotti’s syndrome.

-The intervertebral disc show normal height and normal hyperintense signal on T2W scans. 
No significant focal protrusion or diffuse disc bulge is noted.

-Spinal canal dimensions are adequate.
-Facet joints and ligamentum flava show normal signal intensity.
-Thecal sac, conus and cauda equina are normal in appearance.
-Paravertebral muscles show normal MR morphology and signal intensity.


IMPRESSION

In light of above mentioned MR signs; picture is suggestive of Bertolotti’s syndrome with enlargement of right transverse process of L5 and pseudo arthrosis with right sacral ala for clinical correlation.
