Cavernous Sinus Protocol (MR& CT). 

A) MR Protocol:

  • Routine T2.
  • Flair.
  • Pre contrast T1 for the entire brain.
  • Post contrast T1 equal or less than 3 mm- thick images in axial and coronal planes with at least one plane imaged with a fat saturation technique.
  • Images taken from orbital apex to pre pontine cystern.
  • Thin section 3 D heavily weighted images may allow visualization of cranial nerves in cavernous sinus  and adjacent cysterns. 
B) CT Protocol:

  • Multi detector machine.
  • Post contrast images.
  • Axial or coronal planes by using 1mm or less thick section.
